Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryREVEREND ALEXANDER ROSS McCARVER Peacefully, on September 21, 2002, Alexander McCarver passed away at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 92 years. Faithful to his Lord and Saviour for 71 years of pastoral ministry, Alexander was born in Jackson County, Fackler, AL. He accepted the position of Sunday School Superintendent at the tender age of 16 and received his call to the ministry in his home church, Friendship Baptist, at the age of 21. He received his Bachelor of Theology degree from the American Baptist Theological Seminary (May 1946), Nashville, TN. He met his late wife, Sarah Frances Lee of Atlanta, GA, at ABT. He served as pastor to several churches in the area of Middle, TN. Gifted in leadership qualities, he also served as moderator of the Mud Creek (Alabama) and Elk River District Associations (Tennessee) until his calling to pastoral ministry at the Pilgrim Baptist Church (Winnipeg) in June 1966, retiring in November 1989. After retiring he continued to serve in many ministerial capacities in the community. Always willing to listen, provide wisdom, compassion in crisis situations, his quiet spirit and sense of humour drew people to love, respect and trust his practical guidance. Alexander was a devoted pastor to his church family and a protective husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by family in Detroit, his sister Lillie Mae McCarver; nephew Eugene (Linda) Fielder and family; Tony Carroll; niece Joann (Nelson) Brame; nephew William; sister-in-law Clara McCarver; and niece Doris Ann McCarver. He is also survived by his son James Samuel (June) daughters, Margaret Esther (Ernie) Crawford and Edith Louise Smith; nine grandchildren, James Jr., Alexander, David McCarver, Winnifred Crawford, Lisa (Ivan) Stepney, Carmerlita Crawford, Eleanor (Todd) Maine, Rodney (Tina) Smith, Robert (Teresa) Smith; 10 great-grandchildren Jordan, Matthew, Eric Smith, Taylor, Alisha, Victoria Maine, Isaiah, Devin, Caitlyn Smith, Zane Stepney. He was blessed to have a very loving and supportive extended family. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant; Thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." --Matthew 25:21 Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Funeral service will take place on Friday, September 27 at 3:00 p.m. also at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
