ELSIE PETERS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, sister, and aunt, Elsie Peters, on September 21, 2002, at the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Left to mourn are her husband, Alex, with whom she recently celebrated 50 years of marriage; her daughters, Joanne Peters (Michael Dudar), and Allison Peters; her sister Phyllis (Michael) Drozd; her brother Sam (Guyla) Smilski; her nephews, Reese (Daria) and Robert (Sandra) Smilski; and great-nephews and great-nieces, Gregory, Caden, Danielle, and Melanie Smilski; her aunts, Anna Baydack and Lorraine Halliday; and her cousins. She was predeceased by her mother Nettie in 2001, and her father Samuel in 1986. Elsie was born in Winnipeg and grew up in West Kildonan, where she attended Victory School and West Kildonan Collegiate Institute. She continued her education at the Angus Business College and worked as a secretary, until the birth of her eldest daughter. In 1968, she returned to work with the Winnipeg School Division No. 1, serving as the school secretary for Machray, and Riverview Schools until her retirement in 1989. Anyone who worked with her was touched by her warmth, intelligence, energy and enthusiasm. We will miss her love and the boundless generosity with which she gave of her time and caring. She was devoted to her family and her friends, always remembering birthdays and the special events in their lives. A wonderful cook, she enjoyed trying new recipes and especially, new desserts. An avid reader, she loved music and the arts. Visits to gardens delighted her and a bouquet of flowers always brought a smile to her face. Her sense of humour, her willingness to help, and her kind spirit will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to express its thanks to the Emergency Response staff of the Winnipeg Fire Department, and to the medical staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital for their dedica-ted, professional, and compassionate care. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with Fr. Dmytro Dnistrian, C.Ss.R. officiating. A private family interment will follow in Glen Eden Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Elsies memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
