MATHILDA BAUCH It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mathilda Bauch (nee Nachtigal), on Monday, September 23, 2002. She leaves to mourn her death her four children, Richard (Margaret), Janet (Ron) Markwart, Irvin (Shirley), and Linda; seven grandchildren, Dean (Monique), Louanne Davey, Philip (Lisa) Markwart, Christine (Peter) Esdaile, Sarah Orsted, Shannon (Geoff) Sullivan and Jim; six great-grandchildren, Benjamin Esdaile, Amelie and Stephenie Bauch, Marissa and Cassandra Davey and Paige Sullivan; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Mathilda was predeceased by her husband Benjamin, as well as all her brothers and sisters. Mathilda was born January 24, 1908, in Wolynia, Russia. She was the eighth of 10 children born to Wilhelm and Helene (Steg) Nachtigal. In 1913 the family immigrated to Canada. They homesteaded near Steep Rock, MB. On June 30, 1934, Mathilda married Benjamin Bauch. They farmed near Moosehorn. To accommodate Lindas need for special education Mathilda went to live in Thunder Bay, ON, then Winnipeg. She has lived at Meadowood Manor since February 1998. Mathilda enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She kept her family and friends supplied with warm cozy slippers, and many babies were wrapped in the lovely shawls she made. At Meadowood she became well known for her rosettes which she was always happy to make for special occasions. She always enjoyed time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her. She imparted her love of nature and spirit of adventure to all her family. Mathildas faith in God sustained her throughout her life. She will be missed. Blessed be her memory. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with Reverend Edward Hamm officiating. Visitation will be held one-half hour prior to the service time. Our family sincerely appreciates the kindness and friendship offered her at Meadowood, and especially the wonderful pastoral care given to her by Pastor and Mrs. Hamm.
