PETER JAMES SKRABEK Peacefully with his family around him, on Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at the Misericordia Health Centre, Winnipeg, Peter James Skrabek, aged 92 years, of Winnipeg and formerly of Narcisse, MB. Peter was born on July 7, 1910 in Poplarfield, MB. He married Mary Martiniuk in 1935, and they farmed and raised their family in Narcisse, moving to Winnipeg in 1967. Peter also was employed by Canadian National Railways until his retirement in 1975. Peter was an avid hunter and trapper for most of his life, and passed his love of the outdoors on to his family. As a hunter, he was well respected for his keen shooting accuracy. Peter was predeceased by his wife, Mary in 1990; and daughter Patricia (Joe) Lapka in 1998; and his brothers, Sidney, Emile, William; and sister Kay. He is survived by two sisters, Anne Bohonos and Julia Hartle, Winnipeg; three children, Helen (Harold) Magnusson, Riverton, Nancy (Garry) Ransom, Waterloo, ON and James (Lenore) Skrabek, Teulon; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Teulon, with Rev. Ken Anstie officiating. Pallbearers will be Peter Skrabek, Andrew Skrabek, Jason Magnusson, Bob Lapka, Kelly Kjaldgaard and Don Green. Interment will take place in the Inwood Community Cemetery, with lunch following at the Inwood Hall. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Misericordia Health Centre, Cedar Grove unit, for their tender care during dads stay there. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Narcisse Womens Institute, in care of Arlee Gilson, Narcisse, MB R0C 2H0. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon in care of arrangements.
