ELISSON WINFIELD BRAEMER (AL) August 12, 1944 - September 24, 2002 After a short, but very courageous battle with cancer, it is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our great father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, Al Braemer. "Ali Bubba" was born in Hallock, MN, and then moved to Dominion City, MB, where he was raised by his mother Anna and his brother Fred. In his youth he started his love for sports playing baseball, football, track and field, and curling and excelled at all of them. This grew into a love for fastball, which started with "The Portage Mercuries" and ended with a long career with "The Hillary Blues" which was where he met and became friends with so many people throughout the community. A special thanks to this years team, which included his son Brent for the third year in a row and made him feel very special, with a "tribute" to Bubba at their final tournament. Throughout the years his love for curling let him watch his son and daughter compete and travel with the game and was always the proud Pappa. It was due to him teaching them the game that he saw Brent and Tammy achieve many goals. Al himself had too many achievements to mention, including a Tankard Appearance and a Senior Provincial, and was very proud of curling in every M.C.A. bonspiel since he was sixteen, winning the "odd event" as he went along. His wife of 32 years, always "his bride", passed away of the same disease and it was then that Al showed his strength and courage, once again helping in any way possible and more recently helping his daughter Tammy overcome a crippling disease and stand on her feet again. He was her main support throughout and showed us once again he would simply have done anything for his kids "Teema-J" and "Brentnor". After a career in teaching, Al went into financial planning where he took extra special care of each of his clients, whom to him were all good friends as well. Remaining to forever cherish Als memory are his son Brent (Terri) daughter Tammy; grandson Zackery Aldon Charles Lewis Coulson Braemer; mother Anna Marie; and brother Fred Dwight. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Lou who died on Saturday, May 6, 2000. Als funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 1 at 1:00 p.m. in the Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Dr. For those who wish, viewing will be held one hour prior to his funeral service in the church. A private family interment will be held in Dominion City, MB. Honorary pallbearers will be Messrs., Tom Mullan and Bill Toth. Active pallbearers will be Messrs., Dwight Adams, Don Barcome, Dustin Davis, Jim Friesen, Errol Klink, Patti Spiring, Tom Stewart and Ed Thom. Our family would like to thank everyone at The Wok House Restaurant, The Crestview Fastball League, Assiniboine Curling Club, C.F.B. Golf Course, the Saturday group at Georgies where he was known to sit doing his crossword puzzles over a beer, and everyone who loved "Ali Bubba" in the St. James Community, where of course he raised his family, coached and played sports, taught school and so on. With all the support weve received from friends and family over the years, we have always known how much Dad was loved. In lieu of flowers, it was Dads wishes that donations be made to a charity of your choice. "Dad, we love you, Be at peace with "your bride"; You will never be forgotten."
