ROY GEORGE BLACK May 21, 1920 - September 23, 2002 Peacefully, but not without great determination for life, dad surrendered to his illness on September 23, 2002, with his family at his side. He will be fondly and lovingly remembered by daughter Barb; son David (Peggy) and cherished granddaughters, Rhonda, April and Lindsay; grandsons, Barry (Andrea and Brendan) and Scott; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Dad was predeceased by his parents, James and Ellen; wife Ruth; sons, Jim and Ron. Dad served in the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War as a mechanic in Calgary and Winnipeg and was previously a member of the Weston Legion. Dad was versified in many types of work. He was employed at Eatons, Standard Dairies, S.I.R., Dans Transfer, Lakehead Freightways and Cottrell Forwarding. Dad retired in 1985. His last position being custodial engineer for Livingston Distribution. Dad was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed the company of family and friends. Anyone who asked for help was never turned away. He was always in conversation with anyone who passed his home. Dad had a passion for older cars and could always be found in the back yard tinkering with his 1948 Chev. His relaxing times were spent at the family cottage in Beausejour where he sat in his favourite chair and waited to be served his favourite food. (Dad had a healthy appetite!) The family would like to thank the staff of Fred Douglas Lodge, Willow Unit, for all their care and kindness during his time there. Also, special thanks to the nurses of Seven Oaks Hospital, floor 3, U5, especially Joanne and Andrea, for their compassionate care. Sincere thanks to Dr. McClure, Dr. Pinette and Dr. Hahlweg. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service for family and friends will be held Saturday, September 28 at 4:00 p.m. at Little Britain Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Roys memory to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation. REST IN PEACE BELOVED FATHER AND GRANDFATHER YOU WILL REMAIN IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER.
