Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY LOCKETT (nee MORRIS) February 10, 1919 - September 24, 2002 Our beloved wife and mother passed away peacefully in the early morning of Tuesday, September 24, 2002. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Jack, son Peter (Virginia) Lockett, and daughter Frances (Bob) Harris. Joining us in remembrance are Dorothys cherished family in Britain: nephews, Michael (Linda) Daily and children, Rachel and Paul, Chris (Joy) Byrne and sons, Richard and Nicholas; niece Pat MacGregor; and cousins in England and Belgium. Dorothy was born in Manchester, England, to Tom and Amelia Morris. Her mother died shortly after Dorothys birth, leaving Dorothy and her three sisters to be fostered by family members for the next 12 years. Tom Morris then married Gwendolene Wynne and the family was happily reunited. During the Second World War, Dorothy turned her hand to repairing cash registers in shops and pubs. On one such call, she met Jack who was on leave from overseas duty. It was love at first sight and they were married in February 1945. Dorothy worked at many jobs in order to pay for Jack to attend night school and earn his teachers certificate. The best job of all was as mother to Peter and Frances. In 1957, the family immigrated to Canada, choosing Winnipeg as their new home. Dorothy worked at the new Simpsons Sears store in Polo Park, in the girls clothing department and later in the cash office. She retired after 20 years of service. Dorothy loved to be with her family and friends, and enjoyed cooking wonderful meals for them all. She liked nothing more than to work in her garden, and loved all flowers and plants. She played a mean game of Scrabble and loved bridge parties. Dorothy and Jack leased a six acre hobby farm in the Tolstoi area and enjoyed many years of happiness there. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in February this year. Dorothy suffered a stroke in September 2000. Despite the difficulties this caused her, she never lost her spirit, zest for life or sense of humour. After 18 months of hospitalization, it was a happy day when Dorothy and Jack were reunited and were able to spend the last few months of her life together at Lindenwood Manor. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dorothys many friends. We also thank her home care workers for their TLC, the staff of Riverview 4E, the nurses and aides of Unit 5 at Victoria Hospital, and Drs. Pacin and Yeung. A celebration of Dorothys life will be held in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, at 1501 Waverley St., on Monday, September 30 at 2:00 pm. If friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of their choice. The reason firm, the temperate will, endurance, foresight, strength, and skill; A perfect Woman, nobly plannd, To warn, to comfort, and command; And yet a Spirit still, and bright With something of angelic light.
