Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEO ANDRE FONTAINE August 8, 1917 - September 27, 2002 Leo Andre Fontaine died on September 27, 2002 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 85 years, with his beloved wife of 64 years, Yvonne (Desautels) at his side. Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Lorraine Moncado (Art Wilson), Annette; son Philip (Maureen) grandchildren, Dean Moncado (Tina), Cathy Klassen (Rick), Nicole and Danielle Fontaine; great-grandchild, Jessica Klassen. Leo is survived by four brothers, Tony (Kay), Louis, Ernie (Gisele), and Sammy (Leona) and sister Irene Wand. Leo was born in Winnipeg on August 8, 1917. He served in the Armour Corps in Canada during the Second World War. He worked as a roofer for Whitfield Brothers for a number of years and then for CPR for 37 years, retiring as a switchman in 1979. Leo loved his cottage at Grand Marais, MB, which he purchased in 1949 and his second home in Palm Springs, CA, where he wintered for 21 years. Leo enjoyed travelling to many parts of the world, gardening, and wildlife watching. For many years, he was involved in Paroisse du Sacre-Coeur, Ukrainian Legion 141, and Red Cross as a blood donor. His loss will be keenly felt by all who knew him. His kindness and helpfulness will be remembered by many. The family would like to extend special thanks to staff at Victoria Hospital (Rehab Unit and Ward 3) and St. Boniface Hospital (5B) and to the many visitors who came to see him during his four month stay at the hospital. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to Cancer Fund, Diabetes Research, or to the charity of ones choice. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1 at the Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint).
