MARY KEENBERG 1913 - 2002 Mary joined Abe on September 26, 2002. She passed in a flash. Mary was never ill; she lived a full, wonderful life contributing to her family, her community, her loving husband Abe, loving her children, Ronald Douglas and Patricia Lynn (Carlson) her grandchildren, Megan Keenberg, Adam Carlson and Kathryn Carlson; her new daughter Jonina; and Joy Evans, her constant companion. Mary was a brilliant student, graduating at the top of her class, best in province, best in nursing. She taught grades one to twelve in a one-room schoolhouse from the age of 14 to 18, when she was able to enter nursing at the General Hospital in Winnipeg. In 1938, Mary met and married Abe Keenbergit became a great love affair! Dad passed away in 1987, but the love affair continued. A day didnt pass without Mary having a talk with Abe. Mary and Abe moved to Winnipeg in 1945, after being nurse and doctor in Baldur and Glenboro, MB. Mary switched careers. She joined Hadassah-Wizo and a lifetime dedicated Zionist blossomed. It was her passion; she gave her time. It was more than a full-time jobIsrael was at stakeits formation, its building, its preservation. Mary the "hawk" circled and protected it like a mother protecting her brood. Mary was the President of the Lillian Freiman chapter and the City of Winnipegs Hadassah-Wizo organization. Later, she was a national Vice-President. Mary believed and worked with a passion that she passed on to her children and grandchildren. We are a driven familyMary was a wonderful force. She made us free to believe our beliefs, to be whom weve become. We love you, Mom We love you Grandma Funeral services will be held at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, Winnipeg, Monday, September 30 at 11:00 a.m. Donations may be made to Hadassah-Wizo.
