GWENDOLEN PENTLAND YOUNG (HALL) On Thursday, September 26, 2002 at Misericordia Place in Winnipeg, Gwen, mother of Lorna Gray, passed away. Gwen was born in Toronto, ON September 29, 1903. She lived in Ontario and Minnesota for several years before moving to Winnipeg with her family. Mom graduated from Kelvin High School in 1919 and from the University of Manitoba in 1923 with a B.A. While at university she enjoyed all sports especially basketball. In 1935 Gwen married Harry Young at Westminster United Church, Winnipeg and soon after they moved to Windsor, ON finally settling in Chatham, ON for 10 years. When they moved back to Winnipeg, Gwen belonged to the White Cross Guild & the Womens Missionary Society at First Presbyterian Church where she has been a long-time member. Mom was a gracious lady who everyone loved with her warm smile and great sense of humour. Surviving besides her daughter Lorna, are sister-in-law Doris Young (Winnipeg), sister-in-law Ruth Young (Victoria) and nieces and nephews, Elizabeth (Toronto), David (Winnipeg), Jeffery (Winnipeg), Bev (Vancouver), Ken (Nanaimo), John (Florida), Fred (Victoria). Following cremation, a memorial service will be held in Thompson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, Wednesday, October 2 at 3:00 p.m. with The Rev. Dr. Bruce A Miles officiating. Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Misericordia Health Centre, 99 Cornish Ave., Winnipeg or a charity of their choice. The family would like to thank all the people at Misericordia Place who made Moms life so much better for the last three years, also the friends who visited, especially Reverend Ted Hicks.
