DOROTHY "JOYCE" FRIESEN (nee HAINING) August 14, 1926 - September 28, 2002 After a meaningful life of active participation in the community and loving attention to her family, Joyce stoically faced a lengthy battle with cancer. In the end, she passed away peacefully with members of her family at her bedside during her stay in hospital. She will be sorely missed by her family; husband Jacob (Jake) G. Friesen; son Rodney Dean Friesen (Kathleen) and children, Lauren and Jennifer; son Kenneth James Friesen (Elinor) and children, Courtney and Scott; sisters, Mavis Miller and Laura Schley; and brother Bill Haining (Evelyn). She was predeceased by her parents, John and Ada Haining. Joyce, besides being a caring wife and mother, was actively engaged in using her secretarial talents; latterly with the Morris School and, after passing her University of Manitoba exams in Municipal Administration (with honours), as Administrative Officer for the Town of Morris until her retirement in 1988. Joyce was keenly interested in sports; a tournament curler in Manitoba and a trophy winning shuffler in the Rio Grande Valley. She also thoroughly enjoyed her golf with friends in Morris and Texas. Joyce appreciated very much visits by the United Church ministers, Jeannette Brigit, and Bob and Myrna Stark; and enjoyed visits by her many friends who were welcome company before and during her stay in hospital. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to Dr. R. Manness and the very competent staff at the Morris Hospital for giving her attentive and compassionate care that exceeded all benchmarks.
