LENORE (LOLLY) ROPER It is with great sorrow that our family mourns the passing of Lolly at age 76, after a brave and determined battle with cancer. She passed peacefully at the Rehabilitation Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB on October 1, 2002. Predeceased by her loving husband Clive in 1990 and friend and companion George Crewson in May, 2002. Loving mother of Lesley and husband George Stanton of Treherne, MB and Eileen and husband Bob Stuebing of Toronto, ON. Cherished grandmother of Kevin Stanton and wife Holly, and Chris Stanton and wife Christine, Dean Stanton and wife Leanne. Proud great-grandmother of Taylor and Owen Stanton; dear sister of Ada Bergman and brother-in-law Bill. Predeceased by sisters, Annette Appel and Jackie Singer and their husbands, Sam and Albert. She will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, and their families, Dale Crewson and wife Verla and her many friends. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Lolly worked for 20 years in the Mens Wear Department of Eatons at Portage and Donald. She moved to Treherne in 1971 where she and Clive owned and operated the Central Hotel with Lesley and George until retiring in 1986. When Clive passed away from cancer in 1990, Lolly devoted herself to counselling cancer patients and their families. She was first diagnosed with cancer in 1994, but surgery and treatment held the disease in check until she entered the Rehabilitation Hospital in May of this year. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and unit staff at the Rehabilitation Hospital, RR6, Rheumatology and Orthopaedics for compassionately and professionally assisting our mother in her battle. Our heartfelt thanks to Doctors, H. El Gabalawy, C. Peschken, D. Robinson, C. Hitchon and J. Guzman. Also Doctor Kim Cunningham for her unscheduled visits just to say hello and brighten Moms days with her smile. And a very special thank you along with our gratitude to all the nursing staff for their understanding, exceptional care and many kindnesses. We also thank Louise Growryluk, Manager, Patient Care, who always did her best to make a difficult time easier. A celebration of Lollys life will be held at the Treherne United Church, Treherne, MB on Friday, October 4 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow in Bethel Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Lollys memory to either the Arthritis Centre, Research Program, RR149-800 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1M4 or the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7.
