Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMILY CHARBONNEAU Emily Charbonneau (nee Presunka) passed away at Golden Links Lodge in Winnipeg on Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at the age of 90. Leaving to mourn her passing are her three daughters, Darie (Stan Turner) of Lethbridge, Audrey (Stuart Scott) and Phyllis (Alan Hirota) of Winnipeg. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and sisters, Matilda Patterson of Winnipeg, Peggy Goodman of Montreal and Alice Darroch of Sudbury. She was predeceased by her husband and best friend of 55 years, Lionel, who passed away in 1990. Emily Presunka was born in Dauphin, MB on September 1, 1912 where she received her early education. She continued her education in The Pas, MB where she trained for and became a graduate nurse. While in The Pas, she met and married Lionel Charbonneau on July 24, 1935. They lived in The Pas until 1952 when they moved to Neepawa and later to Brandon in 1958 where Lionel was transferred with the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission. While in Neepawa and in Brandon, Emily continued her nursing career. In 1959, she studied for and attained her Registered Nursing Degree. This was an accomplishment of which she took great pride. She nursed in the Pediatric Unit of Brandon General Hospital for 18 years. Following retirement they began spending winters in Arizona and later Texas. It was on those trips that they enjoyed making new friends and golfing. While in Brandon, they were members of the Glen Lea Golf Course. Following her husbands death in 1990, she kept her own home in Brandon and took pride in her garden and lawn. In 1999, after a fall that broke her hip, she moved to the Rosewood Village in Winnipeg and in the spring of 2001, she was moved to the Golden Links Nursing Home where she remained until her passing. This gentle woman was of deep faith, determination and inspired her family by her perseverance to overcome all adversity. Prayers will be said at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, Brandon on Friday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church, Brandon on Saturday, October 5 at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Leo Fernandes as Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, No. 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3G 4G2.
