JAMES LEWIS (JIM) It is with great sadness that the family of Jim Lewis announce his sudden passing on Thursday morning, October 3, 2002. Jim was born in Belfast, Ireland on December 15, 1938 and grew up there along with his three brothers and two sisters. He married Christina Johnston in 1960. With wife Christina and daughter Janet the family immigrated to Winnipeg in 1963. Jim was employed with River East Transcona School Division for 32 years. He worked at Central, Margaret Underhill, Wayoata, and Harold Hatcher Schools. Jim was especially compassionate to the children who had special needs. He went out of his way to encourage and support them. He will be fondly remembered by all the many students, parents and staff who knew him. He was everybodys favourite leprechaun. Jim planned to retire in May 2003. Jim volunteered with the mentally handicapped for several years. Jim was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was the happiest when he was surrounded by his family. Jim loved his grandchildren dearly and would do anything for them, from driving them places to helping them at work to going to special events, he was always there for them. The entire family loved to go on holiday trips with Grandma and Grandpa Lewis. Family holiday trips with Grandma and Grandpa Lewis were a yearly event. Everyone who knew Jim knew that he loved to sing. He would often sing at the St. Patricks Day school assemblies. He was a member of the Alliance Church and would often sing for the congregation in his beautiful Irish tenor voice. He also volunteered his services to drive other church members from the Columbia Villa Home to church services. Besides his loving wife of 42 years Christina, Jim will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Janet (Orest) Matvsewycz, Debbie Wagner (Ron Baron) grandsons, Shaun, Stefan, Mark, Robert, Joshua; granddaughter Kristen; brothers, Samuel (Edna), Sidney (Eileen) sisters, Evelyn, Olive (William) sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
