ROD FOWLER April 10, 1944 - October 4, 2002 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear son, brother, father, husband, and friend. Rod passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his wife Jette, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Jette; his daughter Kira; his mother Ella; and his sister Monica and family. Rod was born in Victoria, BC, in 1944. He received his BA from the University of Winnipeg where he was also awarded Athlete of the Year. He earned his CA in 1973. That same year he joined Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) as comptroller in Winnipeg. Rod had a very long and dedicated association with Ducks Unlimited Canada with whom he worked for 29 years. He became Manitoba provincial manager in 1976 and western regional manager in 1983. In 1999, Rod was appointed executive vice-president. He was responsible for the leadership of the organizations conservation programs across Canada while working from DUCs head office at Oak Hammock Marsh. Together, Rod and Jette enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, skiing, and travel. In recent years, Rod took up long distance running. He proudly ran and completed the 2000 and 2001 Manitoba Marathon as well as the 2001 Okanagan International Marathon. Rod was a kind and gentle soul, always looking for the best in everyone he met. Rod enjoyed his travels through North America as this allowed him to work with like-minded visionaries in conservation. Completely selfless, he hoped that others would continue with his vision for a better environment. Our special thanks go out to Dr. Pat Harris and the dedicated staff of the Oncology Unit at the Salvation Army Grace General Hospital as well as our many friends. Rod requested that there would not be any funeral or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, he has asked that donations be made in his memory to DUCs Habitat Fund for Our Heritage, Box 1160, Stonewall, MB, ROC 2Z0. Ducks Unlimited Canada will be dedicating a wetland conservation project in Rods honour in the future.
