IRENE BERTHA MUSSELL (MCQUAY)
Born: Jul 24, 1927
Date of Passing: Oct 04, 2002
Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE BERTHA MUSSELL (McQUAY) Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully in Concordia General Hospital on Friday, October 4, 2002, with her husband and two sons at her side. Irene was born July 24, 1927, the youngest of seven children of William Arthur and Bertha McQuay and was raised in Elmwood. She attended Annagibson and Lord Selkirk schools, graduating in 1944. In 1945 she received her secretarial diploma from Success Business College and went on to become a successful corporate executive secretary, in both Winnipeg and Toronto. Irene married her high school sweetheart Gordon, in 1948. Together they raised two sons, Gord and Greg in Elmwood and East Kildonan. In 1972, Gordons career entailed a relocation to Toronto. While she enjoyed their 17 years of residence in Toronto, Irenes heart was always in Winnipeg. She and Gordon retired in 1989 and returned to their roots. She was a devoted grandmother who followed all of her grandchildrens activities with pride and joy. She was also an avid partner to Gordon in their various gardens, and produced culinary delights from their harvests. Irene is survived by her husband Gordon, her sons Gord (Susan) and Greg (Cheryl) and grandchildren, Christopher, Kathryn, Jennifer, Jacqueline and David. At Irenes request, cremation has taken place. Interment will follow at a private family ceremony in Elmwood Cemetery. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Pat Harris, the Oncology clinic staff, as well as the Concordia third floor nurses and attendants for the exceptional care and attention provided. Flowers are gratefully declined, but donations in Irenes memory may be made to St. Stephens Anglican Church. A memorial service to honour Irene will be held at St. Stephens Anglican Church, 220 Helmsdale Ave., on Wednesday October 9, at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Donna Mahussier, Rector, will preside. A reception will follow at the church. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338 - 0331.
