OREST WILHANOWSKYJ It is with deep sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Orest Wilhanowskyj on October 5, 2002. He will be lovingly remembered by his niece Odean Lukow, her husband Peter McVetty and their daughter Alexandra McVetty. He will also be sorely missed by his close friend Joyce Kolach. He was predeceased by his mother Michalina; father Nicholas and sister Doris (Odaria) Lukow. Mr. Wilhanowskyj was born on May 5, 1920 in the city of Skala, Western Ukraine. He came to Canada in 1937. He worked for the CPR for 37 years, retiring in 1985. He was a lifelong dedicated member of the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. He had a sustained interest in music, from singing in the choir at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, to designing and building by hand several musical instruments including, banduras, mandolins and violins. His fondest memories involved working with wood, especially fine and exotic woods, in the old country and in Canada, and of time spent with his nieces daughter Alexandra. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, October 10 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. at Arlington, with a Basilian Father officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Wilhanowskyjs memory may be made to the Holy Family Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, in care of St. Nicholas Church.
