She is survived by one son, Glen and Martha and grandson Geoff; sister Clara (John) Bracken; two sisters-in-law, Elinor Moen and Kathleen Johnson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Maxwell in 1970; two sons in infancy; four sisters, Katherine Penston, Nan MacDonald, Alfhild Spence and Margit Olson; and one brother Harry Moen. Mom was born to Nels and Regina Moen on July 2, 1910 in Winnipeg, MB. As a child she moved with her family to the Dover area where she grew up. In 1935 she married Maxwell Smith and moved to Greenridge to establish a farm of their own, and in 1942 they were blessed with a son Glen. After Dads death in 1970 she travelled some and moved to Franklin Manor in Dominion City, but still managed to spend some time on the family farm. Mom was active in the Greenridge United Church, Eastern Star and the Womens Institute. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. In 1997 she moved to the Morris Personal Care Home and later, in 1998, transferred to the Emerson Personal Care Home where she remained until her demise. Funeral services will take place at the Greenridge United Church on Monday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m., with Revs. Bob and Myrna Stark officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenridge Cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Greenridge United Church or a charity of choice. A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at the Emerson Personal Care Home for the wonderful care they gave our mother. Arrangements entrusted to Loewen Funeral Chapel of Steinbach.
