ALEXANDER CHRISTIE OSWALD "UNCLE PETE" 1910 - 2002 Peacefully, at Grace Hospital on Thursday, October 17, 2002, our much-loved Uncle Pete passed away in his 92nd year. He is survived by his nieces, Margaret (Fred) Dunsmore, Pat (Barry) Lloyd; and nephew Donnie (Liz) Manley, and their families. Peter was predeceased by his beloved wife Muriel in 1982. He was also predeceased by his brother Charles and sister Dorothy. He remained in his family home in Charleswood until hospitalized. Peter enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps at the beginning of the Second World War and served in combat in Italy. Upon his return to Canada after the war, he worked with the Department of National Defence as a transport driver. He received the Master Driving Award for being accident-free for 20 years, of which he was justly proud. Pete enjoyed fishing and canoeing and spent many happy outings at Laclu, War Eagle and surrounding lakes. In later years Pete and Muriel bought their cottage at Twin Beaches on Lake Manitoba and spent many happy summers there. We, his nieces and nephew, enjoyed him immensely. He had a great sense of humour and never took himself too seriously. A favourite verse of Petes was a childhood poem "This world that were a -livin in Is mighty hard to beat You get a thorn with every rose, But aint the roses sweet" Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 22 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with Reverend Ian Mills officiating. Uncle Pete will be carried to his rest by his good friend John Buhr and family members Donnie Manley, Donald Lloyd and Jeff, John and Dan Dunsmore. The family would like to thank the Fifth Floor Nursing Staff for their good care of our dear Uncle. "When its springtime in the Rockies, Peter."
