Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE T. SCHMIDT Peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2002, with his wife at his side, George Schmidt passed away at Riverview Health Centre. George was born on May 28, 1911 in Saskatchewan. As a young man he enjoyed playing baseball and was well known for his ability to pitch a good ball. He married Elsie Smith in 1941 in Otterbourne, MB. Together they started a family, moving to St. Vital where they raised two daughters. He was employed with Dominion Construction for many years until his retirement in 1976. He and Elsie enjoyed many happy years spending their winters in Arizona. The last few years of his life were spent in the company of his ever-expanding family whom he cherished and loved deeply. George is lovingly survived by his wife of 61 years, Elsie; daughters, Lenore (Bob) Miller, Ruth (Mark) Aitken; grandchildren, Marianne (Jeff), Laura, Philip, Bonnie; great-grandchildren, Laurel, Tina, Andrew, Joshua, Zachary and Rebecca; two brothers, Arnold and Ralph (Olga) and sisters, Caroline (Carl) and Willa. He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers. Respecting his wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel. Highway 1 at Navin Road. Interment to follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. We, the family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to staff of Riverview Health Centre 4C for the loving care given to Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverview Health Centre 4C, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4.
