PETER JOHN MAYER April 26, 1919 - October 8, 2002 It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the sudden passing, at Beacon Hill Lodge, of Peter Mayer on October 8, 2002 after a short but courageous battle with Alzheimer Disease. Dad leaves to mourn his loving wife of 60 years, Nelda (Winter) his son Jim (Diane) granddaughter Laura McArthur (Kevin) and great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Cooper; his grandson Colin (Tammy) and great-grandchildren, Dakota and Ryan, all of Winnipeg. Dad is also survived by his sister, Elnora Gebhard (Glenn) sister Betty Hansen (George) sisters-in-law, Rose and June Mayer, Merle, Ruth, and Vera (Percy) Winter; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Sam and Eva (Bolen) brothers, Albert (Rose) and Lorne (June) brother-in-law Jim (Ruth) Winter; and brother and sister-in-law George and Mary Slaney. Dad was born in Regina, SK. He worked for General Motors in Regina during the Second World War. Following the war he began working for the CNR and spent almost 40 years with the CNR until he retired in 1985. He worked in various departments during his long career at the CNR and was a Loss and Damage Prevention Officer in the Freight Claims Department at the time of his retirement. He took great pride in his work and was always there to help others. Dad, or "Cap" as he was called by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was very proud of them and never missed an opportunity to boast about their accomplishments. His hobby was building anything out of wood and he constantly frustrated Mom by bringing home old lumber that he had found, to be stored in the basement "for future projects". Cremation has taken place and a private family service has been held to celebrate his life. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should friends so desire donations may be made in dads memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. 982-7550
