JOHN P. COPEN Surrounded by his family, John P. Copen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 78 years. He had completed a year-long battle with cancer. Our Dad and Husband will be lovingly remembered and his life celebrated, even while sadly missed, by his greatest friend and ever-loving Stephanie, wife of 55 years; his daughter Jonine (John) and sons, Stephen (Laurie) and John Jr. (Brenda). Dad is also survived by his two wonderful grandsons, Ryan and Logan; as well as his sisters, Nellie, Effie, and Madeline and their families; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and their children. Dad was predeceased by his parents, William and Winnie; brother George; and sister Anne. Dad was loved by all who knew him for his gentle laughter and love of life, his generosity of spirit, and slightly mischievous glee. When he smiled, his genuine joy and playfulness enchanted all of us. We love him greatly! Prayers were held on Sunday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 21 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn with Very Rev. John A. Melnyk officiating. Reception will follow at Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7.
