MICHAEL STANLEY HRYNICK Following a brief illness at Saint Boniface Hospital on October 15, 2002, Michael Stanley Hrynick of Winnipeg. Michael was born in Cooks Creek, MB on November 10, 1931. Mike is survived by his wife of 47 years, Victoria; and son Brian; sister Mary Skoleski; and brother Allen. Mike was predeceased by his father John Hrynick (1931) mother Carrie (1985) son Terry (1986) stepfather John Grochoski (1990) and brother Nick (1998). As a young man, Mike worked a variety of jobs including cutting lumber in the Ontario sawmills, and as lead cook at the Blue Boy restaurant. A life long resident of Winnipegs Northend, he moved on to the Salter Street Esso Service Station, where he began his training as a mechanic, which would become his lifes occupation. Following his apprenticeship, Mike became manager of the McGregor and Matheson Esso, where he continued to develop his craft and reputation of being a masterful mechanic, which would last his entire career. In 1967, he moved on to become owner/operator of Mikes Texaco, a key fixture in the Northend landscape. In 1978, Mike accepted a position at Parkside Ford, where he remained until his retirement in 1996. And although retired, he could never stop working on cars. Aside from his reputation of being an exceptional mechanic, Mike was also known for his love of hunting and fishing. It was during these hobbies, that Mike was at his happiest. An avid outdoorsman, he cherished his time escaping the confines of city life, and retreating to the simplicity of nature. He was someone always fascinated, and respectful of nature, and sought to instill those values in his sons, as well as to teach them how to live in this environment. It was common practice for Mike to pack up his boat, tent, friends and family, and spend the weekend at one of his favourite remote lakes, always trying to catch that Master Angler. Another of Mikes passions was that of music. For him, it was a must to have music playing wherever he was. He was a major fan of the Big Band era, as well as music from the 1940s and 50s. Mike also loved radio programs from the past and was thrilled when radio station CKVN introduced itself to Winnipeg in 1995. Mike was also an incredible sports fan, devoted to both the Bombers and the Jets. His support would never waiver for them. Mike was also a fan of both movies and television. Known for his sense of humour, and practical jokes, Mike was also an individual known for helping others, and always willing to lend a hand whenever needed. His family would like to express a sincerest thank-you to Dr. Moncek, Dr. Lezack, all of the doctors, nurses, and support staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the St. Boniface Hospital, Sandy Slonosky, Donna Scharikow, and Ken from Home Care. Also, a heartfelt thank-you to Bill Prysizney, and Helen Richard for all of their incredible support and generosity when Mike needed it the most. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 26 at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with Rev. Deacon Nick Kohuch officiating. Viewing will be at 10:30 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be served following the service at the chapel. Cremation to follow. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Prysizney, Peter Soltys, Richard Powzun, Dale Romaniuk, Bernie Lamenski, and Brent Arnold. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mikes memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9, or to the Canadian Cancer Society. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
