EMMA BERNT (CHEZICK) Peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2002 at Selkirk General Hospital at the age of 91. Left to mourn her passing are five daughters (and their families), Lil Segal of Argyle, Helen Krychuk (Mike) of Stonewall, Mildred Stearns of Calgary, Edith Sadowski (Bernie) of St. Andrews, Georgina Polinchuk (Harry) of Winnipeg; daughter-in-law Lillian; ten grandsons, five granddaughters, many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceasing her were her parents, Michel and Helene Chezick; husband Robert Bernt; sons, Ralph and Robert Bernt; daughters, Mary Bollenbach and Edna Trupp; three grandchildren, Cindy, Carla, Konrad; brothers, Ewald, Albert, Gustav, Samual, Frederick, Ted, Karl, Henry, August; sisters, Olga, Otillie, Lydia. Born at River Hills, MB in 1911. She married Robert Bernt at River Hills where they farmed till moving to Balmoral in 1946, where she continued to farm and raise her family. She moved to Bluebird Lodge in Winnipeg in 1975 where she resided for 22 years. She moved to Betel Home in Selkirk, where she resided till her passing. She was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. She was involved in many aspects of Bluebird Lodge Tenants including President for many years and organizing bingo, teas, and activities. At Betel Home she was involved with crafts, and bowling until failing eye sight and hearing forced her to give up her activities. The family wishes to thank the nurses and all the staff of Betel Home, Selkirk, for the excellent care given to our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Also to the doctors who looked after her and the understanding and care shown by the nursing staff at Selkirk General Hospital. Friends may call from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24 at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall, MB. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the Notre Dame Church, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk, MB. Interment to follow at the Victoria Cemetery, Balmoral, MB. Pallbearers will be be Michael Sadowski, Jack Segal, Tim Krychuk, Roger Stearns, Ted Bollenbach, Gregory Polinchuk. Honourary pallbearers will be Shawn Polinchuk and Terry Sadowski. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
