GEORGE WHEELER 1913 - 2002 Peacefully, with family at his side, "Uncle George", resident of Catherine Place, passed away, on October 16, 2002, at the St. Boniface Hospital. George was predeceased by Mae, his loving wife of 56 years, and David, their infant son. He was also predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and Arthur; five brothers; and five sisters. George is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, their children and grandchildren. George grew up living on William Avenue, and was always proud of his North End heritage. He enjoyed sports, the outdoors, and his great big dog that could pull a sled with him on it. Georges earliest employment was with George H. Young, Customs Brokers, of Winnipeg. After a couple of years he moved on to McNeilly & Sons, Hide Brokers and spent the next 35 years plus representing them most successfully all over the three prairie provinces. His final years of employment were spent working for C.H. Enderton, cheerfully greeting residents as they came home to 200 Tuxedo. George and Mae were long time residents of Norwood and also enjoyed many happy summers in their cottage at Victoria Beach. George was known for being a great dancer and in his younger days all the ladies would line up for a foxtrot or a waltz, but it is his always present sense of humour that anyone who new him will remember best. A casual remark would grow into uproarious laughter and everyone would go away with a smile on their faces and a happy feeling in their hearts. As he used to say on parting "see you in the funny papers!" Oh my, how we will miss you! The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on 4A South at St. Boniface Hospital, for the truly kind, compassionate, and thoroughly professional care you gave our "Uncle George" in his final days and hours. Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 25, at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with Pastor T. Moysey officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 9Z9 or to CancerCare Manitoba, ON109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
