GERTRUDE "RUTH" SMITH Gertrude "Ruth" Smith passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, October 21, 2002 at the age of 65 years. Ruth was born and educated in Port Arthur, ON, before moving to Winnipeg, where she worked at the Winnipeg Grain Exchange and married Gabe Ruel. They moved to Swan River, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Wilson Johnsons fuel business. Gabe later died in an airplane accident. Later, Ruth married Andy Aagaard and they established a market garden in Brandon. Andy predeceased Ruth in 1991. Ruth carried on the business until 1996, when she married Alex Smith. They moved into Brandon in June of 2002. Ruth will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her husband Alex Smith; her children, Lene (Dale) Sinclair of Edmonton, AB and their children, Dallas and Lisa; Susan (Murray) Good of Regina, SK and their children, Ben, Matthew and Luke; Jes (Norah) Aagaard of Brandon. She also leaves one brother Gordon (Carol) Faulkner of Thunder Bay, ON and their children, Judy, Kenneth, Kevin and Carol Ann. Ruth is also survived by Alexs children, Cheryle (Garry) Holland of Swan River and their children, Rita, Lloyd and Lisa; Cindy (Robert) Harrison of Brandon and their children, Selena and Kaylie; Curtis (Twyla) Smith of Regina, SK and their children, Jason, Alesha and Sheresa; Barb (Les) Sikala of Strathmore, AB and their children, Jarod and Chris; Harley (Rauchel) Smith of Brandon and their children, Jaucelyn and Brayden. There are two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth also leaves her close longtime friend Charlotte. She was predeceased by Kenneth Smith in 1975. Over the years Ruth was actively involved in many sports, charities and church. Included in these activities were golfing, curling, bowling, swimming, travelling, Redeemer Lutheran Church council, Hospital volunteer, sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting. Ruth made every minute count. The ceremony to celebrate Ruths life will be held at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 114 Ashgrove Blvd., Brandon, on Friday, October 25 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ruth may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Foundation for Special Equipment, Cancer Care, 150 McTavish Ave. E., Brandon, MB R7A 2B3. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel and Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
