AL BLANEY Peacefully at his home in Whitemouth, on Monday, October 21, 2002, Al Blaney, aged 82, beloved husband of Millie. He leaves behind people that will miss him very much, and think of him everyday. Survived by his wife Millie; sons, Pat (Irene), Jim, Terry (Sherrie) and five grandchildren, Jennifer, Jill, Ryan, Jordan and Clayton. Memorial service will be held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Whitemouth, on Friday, October 25 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Owen Steeves presiding. Dad was born Armand Louis Blaney, on April 22, 1920 in St. Narcisse, QC. He began working at the age of 14 in bush camps and construction taking him to Manitoba in the late 1940s. While working on the second stage of the Seven Sister Falls project, he met and married his wife Millie. They would have celebrated their 53rd year of marriage on October 22. With the completion of the dam, they purchased the Whitemouth Transfer, which they operated for many years. After selling the Transfer, it was back to construction and then to work for Manitoba Hydro for 26 years, retiring as a mechanical maintenance technician. In his retirement he found his true calling, working the land and operating heaving equipment. He was at Jims shop every day, offering advice, fixing equipment and playing crib with whoever was lucky or unlucky enough to stop by. He was a nice man, honest and hard working. A great father and grandpa, and a solid member of the community. Big Al, as he was affectionately known, was a good man and he will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, if family and friends so desire, donations in Als memory may be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
