JOANNE ELIZABETH BURKE May 22, 1941 - October 23, 2002 Daughter-sister-wife-mother-aunt-friend Peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at the Womens Hospital, Joanne Burke passed away at the age of 61 years. Leaves to mourn beloved husband and life partner of 40 years Don; and her cherished sons, Donald and Kevin. Also mourning her loss are her sister Joyce (Pete) Vieville and family; Coleen (Dennis) Vieville and their sons, Joey and Andy; Robert Vieville and son Jesse; Richard Vieville; her sisters-in-law, Millie and Leona Burke; her niece Terry (Jeff) Rear and their children, Jennifer and son Chase, Jessica and Kyle; her aunt Goody Hallson; cousin Ger (Jim) Kulik and their children and their families as well as many more relations and dear friends. Joanne was born and raised in Winnipeg. Her first job was as an elementary school teacher in Charleswood. Don and Joanne married August 11, 1962 and after the boys arrived, she took on what she considered to be her most important challenge in life, raising her sons. Once they were in school, she did some home tutoring and part time work at the University of Manitoba. For the past 15 years, before illness forced retirement in 2002, she was known as the MDC lady at the Faculty of Law, a job she loved and where she met many wonderful friends. Joanne took to organized sports later in life. She always enjoyed walking, biking and fitness programs, but soon took up cross-country skiing, curling and golfing. She and Don even tried downhill skiing with friends on a winter holiday. Her latest passion was clogging, definitely her all time favourite. It was through these activities that life was once more enriched with the friendship, caring and support of team mates. Joanne and Don loved camping and exploring our wonderful country. They were able to visit all provinces except Newfoundland and the Territories. Several US states were also visited over the years. In the past five years, they were also able to go to Scotland, on a Caribbean cruise, and to Hawaii. Memorial service will be held at Leatherdale Gardiner, 1501 Waverley St., Wednesday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m.. Flowers gratefully declined.
