GEORGE HUNT After a difficult but bravely - fought battle with diabetes and its complications, George Hunt passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 23, at the too - young age of 67. Geo will be remembered and missed by his wife of 43 years, Pat; his five sons and their wives Terry and Therasa, Tom and Nina, Larry and Lorry, Rick and Tracey and Joel and Shelley; his 11 grandchildren Kayla, Charlie, Spencer, Kyle, Iain, Christina, Lisa, Brittany, Stephanie, Janine and Mathew; his brother and sister-in-law Doug and Sharon Hunt; his sister and brother-in-law Marlene and Pat Taronno; mother-in-law Mary Hamata, as well as other family members and many friends. Geo was born September 6, 1935 in Bissett, Manitoba, the oldest son of George and Lilja Hunt. He grew up in St. James and graduated from St. James Collegiate. He worked for Great West Life for 36 years, taking well - deserved early retirement in 1990. In May, 1959, Geo and Pat married and the following years started what became a large, happy and rambunctious family. The house on Noble Avenue in Elmwood was always full of friends and laughter, the site of many, many happy times. The family enjoyed travelling and camping, and took many trips. In his youth, Geo was a good athlete, particularly at basketball and lacrosse, and he passed his love of sport onto his boys. Geo also curled for many years. Geo and Pat enjoyed travelling, and took many trips together, visiting family and friends across Canada and the U.S. They also enjoyed their summers at Camp Rusalka, where life was good, and where friends and laughs were always in abundance. Geo was a strong but quiet man who loved life, his family, and the pleasures that his life brought him. He faced his illnesses with great courage, never lost his sense of humour, and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The family would like to express their gratitude to Drs. Adrian Robertson and Stephen Henry and nurses at St. Boniface Hospital for their professionalism and compassion during the last few weeks. Memorial service will be held on Monday, October 28, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre.
