LESLIE STUART JAMES After a courageous and hard fought battle against an incurable illness, Leslie Stuart James, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2002, at his home, surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his cherished wife Irmengard in 1993. Leslie was born May 18, 1925 to parents Gordon and Margaret on the farm in Lydiatt. In 1944, he enlisted with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders, and served with the Canadian Army during the Liberation of Holland. He was a witness to the horrors of the concentration camp of Bergen-Belsen. In 1948, he married Irmengard Loeb and together they started a new life in Lydiatt on the farm that they both loved so much. Throughout his life, he was a loving and devoted father and husband. Hard work, courage and determination in the face of numerous setbacks and his gentle sense of humour were an example to us all. Always interested in life around him, he was an active community member. He served as both school trustee and church board member. He was always amongst the first to lend a hand to others in times of need. As a farmer, Leslie believed he provided a valuable service to others. He saw himself as a caretaker of the land; he didnt own it he said, he just looked after it. He leaves behind his siblings, Norma Morris, Don and Blake; his children, Wayne (Kathy), Diane (Dan Franklin), Wes (Valerie) cherished grandchildren, Michael, Kelly and Leslie, numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved. He was also grateful for the deep friendship of Wilda. He also leaves behind the memories of a life well lived and a spirit of simple grandeur. A service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Lydiatt on Sunday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. There will be viewing on Saturday, October 26 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, Park Avenue East, Beausejour.
