Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR MARKS Peacefully, surrounded by his family on October 23, 2002 Arthur Marks aged 73 passed away at the Betel Home in Gimli. Art was born in Camp Morton on August 26, 1929, the ninth of 11 children born to Mathias and Katie Marks. He received his education at King Edward School. Always a hard worker, he followed his brothers and sisters to Red Lake, Ontario to work in the logging camps. He married Helen Kasupski on April 26, 1952. They resided in Red Lake for one year before returning to Gimli. He was employed by the Department of National Defense for 32 years until he retired for health reasons in 1984. He also farmed with his father-in-law. After his retirement at age 55, he was always busy. Many hours were spent metal detecting throughout the Interlake. His lawn was always immaculate. Art, Helen and their dog Blackie often went driving in the evenings looking for deer and other wildlife. Lots of time was spent playing cards and visiting with friends and relatives. He enjoyed listening to old time music and in his time he was an excellent dancer. Art was very proud of his four grandchildren. He has passed on his great sense of humour and love of practical jokes to all of them. Life was never boring when he was around. For his final years when his illness worsened he lived at the Betel Home in Gimli which truly became his second home. As the PSP progressed he was never heard to complain. Many of his caregivers were like his family and we sincerely thank them. We would also like to thank Dr. R.C. Patel for his care throughout his illness. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of fifty years, Helen; his daughters, Shirley Drolet (Jean-Claude) and Linda Kehler (Albert) his grandchildren Marc-Andre Drolet, Melanie Bergthorson (Jeff), Julia and Kathy Semenchuk; his sisters, Anna Gall, Mary Demchuk, Emily Petrash, Betty Keller (Ed), Martha Ryan (Ken Karlowsky) his brother Adolf (Gert) his sisters-in-law Mary Marks and Rose Moore and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Mathias and Katie Marks; his step-mother Elizabeth Marks; his brothers Adam, Joe, Charlie, Tony and his son-in-law Dennis Semenchuk. Prayers will be held at Gilbarts Funeral Home in Gimli on Sunday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church on Monday, October 28 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Gimli Cemetery.
