PHYLLIS LOUISE McRAE (nee LILLEY) On Sunday, October 13, 2002 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Phyllis went peacefully to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Phyllis was born in Winnipeg on September 20, 1916. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry Gordon and Lillian Lilley and husband Andrew Malcolm. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jon, Craig (Veronica), Anne (Rob) Sawchuk; her grandchildren, James, Ryan, Gordon and Lisa; her brother James (Ruby) nephew Mark; niece Diana (Larry) and great niece Arin. Mom worked as a nurse until her family arrived when her devotion focused on her children. Mom believed in community spirit and contributed more than 25 years to volunteer work in the Broadway district and Broadway Optimist Community Club. She was involved in numerous committees and organizations working mainly with inner city children. This dedicated work was rewarded with several awards. She received merit awards in 1974 and in 1987; Volunteer of the Year award in 1988 and a commemorative medal from the Governor General of Canada in 1993 for significant contribution to her community. She will always be remembered as one who gave of herself unselfishly to family, friends and strangers alike. Though small and frail in her last years, her heart and spirit was always large and great. If friends so desire donations can be made to The Church of the Rock, 2211 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB, R3T 2H1 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8. Phylliss family would like to express their gratitude to all those who helped us with her care in the last years of her life. Funeral services have taken place October 18, at The Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. with interment at the Elmwood Cemetery.
