PATRICIA MARIE GORUN It is with deep regret that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, daughter and baba, Patricia Gorun on October 24, 2002 at the tender age of 63 years. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 42 years, Andrew; her mother Katherine Meck; her children, daughter Andrea (Glen) Behl; son Michael (Linda) four precious grandchildren, Stephanie, Natalie, Samantha and Pierce. She is also survived by her sisters, Joanne (Guntis) Rozitis and Iris Meck as well as sister-in-law Phyllis Gorun (Stan Kasperski) and two nephews, Ron Conger and Greg (Michelle) Conger. She also leaves aunts, cousins and many close friends. She was predeceased by her father Peter Meck in 1969. Pat was born August 1, 1939 in Winnipeg and was raised in Sapton, MB and educated in Winnipeg. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Misericordia Hospital in 1960. On September 3, 1960 she married her soul-mate and love of her life, Andrew. A couple that was truly inseparable. They left to live in Toronto where she worked at St. Josephs Hospital and then returned to Winnipeg in 1961. She worked as an RN at Misericordia Hospital and Womens Pavillion in the Maternity Ward as an Assistant Head Nurse. She then assumed the position of Staff Health Nurse at the newly opened Seven Oaks Hospital in 1980, where she set up the initial staff health program. She retired in 1990 and although she retired as a nurse, she never stopped being a nurse. After moms retirement she kept quite busy. She spent countless hours with her grand-children, whom she was so proud of and cherished dearly. Stephanie, her first grandchild, credits baba for her high History mark because of the many hours she spent studying with her. She was babas angel and often turned to mom for advice. She was a meticulous gardener and spent hours in her yard where annuals, perennials and a hearty garden constantly flourished. She loved baking and turned her talents to baking and decorating cakes for friends and strangers. Nobody will ever forget moms beautiful paskas, which she made every year with much pride. A crafty person, she designed floral arrangements, wallpapered, painted and always adding that special touch to everything. A polished hostess, she entertained frequently for her many friends and family. An avid animal lover for 19 years she was truly devoted to her dog, Nikki and sacrificed many a vacation to care for her dog to the end. Pat was a dedicated member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, where she was involved in many groups from her teens, including Camp Veselka, teaching Sunday School and initiating the Cathedrals outreach program. Shed visit the sick and elderly at hospitals and at homes, bringing along her cheery disposition. Mom was always ready to help during election time and enjoyed her opportunity working as a Returning Officer. She helped found her son-in-laws business and then went on to work for Glen and Michael at Garden Grove Produce as well as at the Forks Market, where she helped run the Green Bean. Andy and his Tweedie as he affectionately called her, spent many wonderful weekends at their cottage at Hillside Beach. She helped dad build the cabin and made it into a warm extension of her home. In 1996, mom and dad took their first major vacation to Hawaii with a promise to return. Since then, they traveled to Las Vegas and many neighbouring casinos, where mom realized she had a lucky streak. Mom was always helping others and yet never complained or asked anything from anyone. Mom was a strong woman with high morals and values, which she instilled in her children. Always lending a hand, whether it was last minute babysitting or flying to Calgary to help care for her mother in the hospital. A genuine and remarkable person, who touched many lives while she was here. You will be forever missed, Mom. Andy and his family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all their good friends for all their visits, support and kindness. It is much appreciated. Prayers will be held on Monday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Funeral Service on Tuesday, October 29 at 9:30 a.m. at the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main St. with Rev. Fr. Henry Lakusta officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Art Cerkow, Melvin Cerkow, Greg Conger, Bill Fosty, Mike Karpenko and Stan Kasperski. Mom, you were always there for me and my family no matter what and I feel so down knowing I couldnt be there for you. You were the pillar in our family and always made our house a home. You brought me into this world and taught me so much, I will never forget. Your advice, guidance and knowledge has been indispensable, always going that extra mile for everyone. You brought life, happiness and optimism into any room or situation you entered. I love you so very, very much and know life will never be the same for me again, however, you left this world a better place with all your generosity, care and love. Love, Andrea CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
