GOLDIE RITTBERG Goldie Rittberg, 96, passed away on October 12, 2002, in Winnipeg, MB. Born April 10, 1906, in Lodz, Poland, to Meyer and Fanny Starkman Katz, she came to Canada in 1908, originally to Winnipeg, and later living in Vancouver for over 75 years. She moved back to Winnipeg in January 2001. Predeceased by husbands, Leonard Bent (1953) and Sam Rittberg (1985), she is survived by her son Nat (Miriam) Bent of Palm Springs, CA, and daughter Sharon (Alan) Bronstone of Winnipeg. She had four grandchildren, Linda (Jay) Filbert of Winnipeg, Heather (Zvi) Shalom of Yehud, Israel, Adam Bronstone of New Orleans, LA, and David Bent of San Diego, CA; her four great-granddaughters, Samantha, Morgan and Or Shalom of Yehud, Israel, and Braidin Filbert of Winnipeg. Goldie was a tireless worker on behalf of Israel and the Jewish community. In Vancouver she became known as "Mrs. Hadassah" for her energetic commitment and leadership. She was a spellbinding speaker, using stories to teach and inspire. After her move to Winnipeg in 2001, Goldie lived at The Waverley, where her warmth and caring nature made it easy for her to make new and lasting friendships. She was best known there for her colourful tea cozies that she made, which could be seen on any given day being used in the dining room. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and truly a woman of valour. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends, but will live on in our memories forever. The family of Goldie Rittberg would like to thank the following people for their love and kindness they towards her, Dr. F. Salem and the staff at Vista Medical Centre, the many friends and staff at The Waverley, the staff at the Victoria General Hospital, especially the nurses on the 4th floor who made her last few days as comfortable as possible. The funeral was held in Vancouver, BC, on October 16 at the Schara Tzedeck Cemetery. Her grandsons, Adam Bronstone and David Bent presided over the service. Donations can be made in Goldie Rittbergs memory to Hadassah Wizo Council of Vancouver, 950 W. 41st Ave., Suite No. 304, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 2N7 (604) 257-5160.
