Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE LOUISA SCANLAN (nee LUNNEY) June 18, 1918 - October 26, 2002 Irene Scanlan passed away peacefully on October 26, 2002 at the Grace General Hospital in her 85th year. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Maureen and her husband Ken Plews, son Rick and his wife Sandi, grandchildren, Ian, Kyle, and Margot Plews and Brent Scanlan; sister Marilyn Jones and brother-in-law Archbishop Walter Jones and their children, Lenore, Leah, Barry, Kristin and families, also Scanlan nieces and nephews. Irene was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, and was happiest in the company of her family. Irene was a founding and longtime member of Christ Church (Anglican) and was very active in the Anglican Church Women. She loved meeting and socializing with people. This friendly spirit was present in all her activities, whether working in the information department of Winnipeg Transit where she was employed for many years, participating in the activities of the Daughters of the Nile and Jobs Daughters; enjoying the excursions sponsored by the Khartum Drum Corps of which her husband Art was a lifetime member, or joining in the numerous activities of The Wellington where she and Art spent their final years. The family wishes to thank Dr. A. G. Jowett and Agnes, and the wonderful home care staff at The Wellington for their compassion and kindness to Mom. A celebration of Irenes life will be held on Friday, November 1 at 1:30 p.m. at Christ Church (Anglican), 1735 Corydon Ave. at Lanark Street with Canon Murray Still and Archbishop Walter Jones officiating. Interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Church (Anglican), 1735 Corydon Ave., Winnipeg, R3N 0K4, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
