ROBERT (BOB) KENNEDY 1909 - 2002 With deep sadness we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Kennedy, at the age of 93 years, on October 27, 2002. Bob was predeceased by his parents, George and Martha; his brother Alex; and his beloved wife of 41 years, Betty. Loving memories of Bob will be cherished by his children, Betty Jean and her and Rob Bones children, Allison and Ian; George and Maureen and their children, Colleen, Lisa, and Kathryn; Bruce and Brenda and their children, Andrew and Scott; Gordon and Diana and his children, Lindsay and Erin. Also remembering Bob with love are the extended members of our family. Bob was born in Ecclefechen, Scotland and came to Canada in 1913. After completing his schooling at Mulvey and Kelvin, he started his 47 year long career with the CPR in 1927. Through his commitment and hard work, he advanced his career from an entry-level office boy, to various administrative positions, and had achieved the level of Office Manager for the Vice-President of the Prairie Region when he retired in 1974. During those years, Bob met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Guild. They were married in 1936 and had four children. Over the years, there were fond memories of the backyard rink, the summers at Gimli by train and the frequent car camping trips. Family was very important to Bob. He delighted in having his children and grandchildren gathered around him at special occasions. Throughout his life, Bob had close ties to the First Presbyterian Church and gave countless hours of volunteer time. He served on the former Board of Managers, was elected an elder in 1964, was Clerk of the Session for seven years, and served as Treasurer for almost 40 years. Members of the congregation could count on Bob to be in the church vestibule on Sunday mornings greeting people as they arrived, young and old alike. His faithful presence was a testimonial to his dedication and love for First Presbyterian Church. As part of his long-standing contribution, Bob was also the volunteer manager of Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery for over 25 years. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Misericordia Interim Care Unit and especially to the many friends who visited Bob there on a regular basis. He cherished those friendships and visits, and each of you made an important contribution to Bob living his life peacefully to the very end. The service to celebrate Bobs life will take place on Saturday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 61 Picardy at the corner of Canora Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Way. Drop thy still dews of quietness Till all our strivings cease. Take from our souls the strain and stress And let our ordered lives confess The beauty of thy peace. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
