SOPHIE SLYM (PORUBANEC) It is with much sorrow that our family announces the passing of our beloved Mom, grandma and great-grandma, Sophie Slym on Sunday, October 27, 2002 at the age of 90. Mom was a very special, happy, fun-loving lady and will be missed by all who knew her, especially by her daughter Irene (Del) Reid of Winnipeg; son Stan (Elaine) of Surrey, BC. She also leaves to mourn grandchildren, Colleen Boyd of Winnipeg, Jeffrey Reid of Edmonton, Mark (Janis) Slym of Surrey, BC; great-grandchildren, Corrina and Brendan Boyd of Winnipeg and Michael Slym of Surrey, BC; sisters, Stephie Stetz of Riverton, Bernice (Michael) Chomyn of Winnipeg; brother Walter (Elinore) of Covina, CA, many loving nieces, nephews and their families. Sophie was predeceased by her parents; brothers, John, Peter, Steve and Nick; sisters, Rose Spring and Mary Dilay. Mom was employed for some years at Childs Restaurant after which she and Dad entered the business world, first with a Red and White Store at Burrows and McGregor and later the Statler Grill on Kennedy Street. She worked the canteen at the Angus Business College and then went on to Eatons where she stayed till retirement. Mother was a long-time member of the C.U.A.C. Womens Auxiliary as well as the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. A family cottage at Falcon Lake was a favourite place for Mom and Dad for almost 50 years where family and friends congregated and were left with many happy memories. Their winters were spent traveling the U.S. where they finally settled in Arizona where they spent many happy years. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude for the wonderful care given to Mom by the 1st and 3rd floors staff at Oakview Place. We will be forever grateful for their kindness and caring. Cremation will take place followed by a private family service. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Sophies memory to a charity of ones choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
