ELIZABETH ANN (BETTY) SMITH After a lengthy illness, Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Smith (nee Young) passed away peacefully on October 29, 2002 at the Riverview Health Centre. Betty is survived by her son Edward (Arlene), Sydney, Australia; and daughter Sharon Borle; grandchildren, Jason Borle (Ginette), Jodie Borle, Tyson and Trent Smith (Australia) and great-granddaughter Brittany; sister Mary OShaugnessey; and sister-in-law Audrey Young. Predeceased by father and mother, Lamert (Cy) and Elizabeth (Elsie) Young; sister Jean; and brother James Young. Also survived by "second son" John Harper and family. Thank you, John, for always being there for all of us. Betty served as one of very few wireless operators in the army where she met and married Tom Smith (deceased 1996). They started a family and moved to East Kildonan where they brought up their two children. After the kids started school, Betty worked at Gurveys Drug Store for many years. She had many happy memories of the friends she made, and of the years spent, living on Neil Avenue. Mom spent many years as a successful realtor serving clients in Winnipeg as well as the Falcon Lake area. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was always there for her family. Her favourite pastime in her latter years was sitting on her deck outside the family cottage at her beloved Falcon Lake, where she spent every chance she had over the last 42 years. Mom enjoyed life and loved travel. She made four trips to Australia to see her son and his family as well as travelling in southeast Asia and cruising in the Caribbean. Las Vegas was also a regular treat on her travel agenda. Heartfelt thanks to the devoted staff of Riverview Palliative Care. Your care, compassion, kindness and support to Mom and family during this difficult time will never be forgotten. Cremation has taken place and an open invitation to a gathering of family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, in the Thomas Sill Room, Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., R2L 1X3. Wojciks Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. 897-4665.
