Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET ELIZABETH BRODA (nee KOTELKO) November 13, 1925 - November 1, 2002 It is with tremendous sorrow that the family announces the passing of their beloved mother and grandmother on the morning of Friday, November 1, 2002, at the Victoria Hospital, just short of her 77th birthday. Margaret was born in Saskatchewan in 1925. Focused on academic and athletic pursuits she became a school teacher and moved to Winnipeg. In 1951, she married Joseph G. Broda (deceased 1979) and devoted her time to her three children while being actively involved in the Parent Teachers Association in East Kildonan. While enhancing her education with further studies at the University of Manitoba (B.A., B.Ed.), she returned to school teaching in the subjects of History, Geography and English at Pierre Radisson Collegiate and wrapped her career at Windsor Park Collegiate before taking an early retirement. With a zest for travel and experiencing the cultures of the world, Margaret travelled extensively; her favourite adventures included Singapore, the Philippines, Ukraine, Tahiti, and Canadas own Arctic regions. She enjoyed bringing the stories and pictures back for her family and students alike and continued to be an avid reader, well versed in both history and the issues of the day. When you were with Margaret Broda, there was no road you could drive or mountain you could climb without hearing the story of the areas geological pedigree, right back to the reasons rocks were coloured the way they are due to the Ice Age. Left to cherish her memories are her children and their families: Beverly Anne Dobran, son-in-law Mauro Dobran and granddaughter Gina (Winnipeg) Bea Broda Connolly and son-in-law Bob Connolly (Toronto) Dr. Russell J. Broda, daughter-in-law Susan Busby and grandson Joseph. (Winnipeg.) Our Mom and Baba had us on her minds at all times, and we will all treasure the legacy left by her dedication and devotion to our well-being. Prayers will be offered at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 4. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 5 at the Ukrainian-Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main St., at 9:30 a.m., with the Very Rev. Fr. Henry Lakusta officiating. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. The family wishes to express thanks to the kind staff at the Victoria Hospital for the treatment she received while in their care. Donations may be made in Margarets memory to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
