Date of Passing: Oct 20, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE FREDERICK ROSS Died in Cincinnati, OH on Sunday, October 20, 2002. He was 57 years old. Born in Montreal, QC, he lived most of his life in Cincinnati, with intervals of prep school and college in other states. He was employed for 30 years by the Ohio Unemployment Insurance Commission until his recent retirement. Mr. Ross was predeceased by his only sister Beta McKibbin of Winnipeg; and by both parents, Dr. W. Donald Ross, psychoanalyst, and Emily (Sally) Chipman, teacher and community activist. His parents were both born and raised in Winnipeg, and graduated from the University of Manitoba in the mid-1930s, having held major positions in student government. All four grandparents were born and grew up in Nova Scotia, migrating to Winnipeg in the years before the First World War, where they pursued their entire careers and lived the rest of their lives. Grandfather Frederick Ross became a senior officer of the Bank of Nova Scotia, while grandfather George Chipman became editor of the United Grain Growers periodical The Country Guide. Both grandmothers were prominent in church and civic welfare activities in Winnipeg. George Chipmans interest in politics led to his being a candidate (unsuccessful) for the premiership of Manitoba in the early 1920s. George Ross never married. He was an active Mason, and enjoyed a hobby of researching family genealogy.
