DEVENDER (DEVEN) FREDERICK BAHANS It is with much pain and sorrow the family of Deven Bahans announce his sudden death in Tokyo, Japan, October 23, 2002. Deven was born in Winnipeg May 27, 1971, the son of Beverley and Roger Bahans. He attended schools in River Heights, graduating in 1989 from Kelvin High School. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1993 with his Bachelor of Arts. During Devens teenage years he was a member of the Boy Scout organization, attending a Canadian Jamboree in Guelph, ON, in 1985 and achieving his Chief Scout Award. Following university he worked for Canada Customs and, in March 1996, took up residency in Tokyo, Japan, to teach English. In 1999, Deven began working for investment houses and, at the time of his death, was employed in the Information Technology Department of Morgan Stanley. Deven enjoyed living in Asia and developed many friendships there. A memorial service was held by his friends in Tokyo on October 27. Left to grieve his passing are his mother Beverley Bahans; his father Roger Bahans; sisters, Sheila (fiance Jason) and Pam; his loving grandmother Adele Smith; and several uncles, aunts and cousins: Winston and Kathie Smith (Andrea and Pierre Bedard, Ian and Sharalee Smith, Colin and Micha Smith) Ron and Judy Smith (Byron and Shannon) Dennis and Margo Smith (Logan and Veronica). Pallbearers will be Colin Smith, Byron Smith, Pierre Bedard, Jason Long, Beau Downey and Michael Embury. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapels.
