Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH VINCENT KITCHER 1915 - 2002 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Vincent Kitcher at Grace Hospital on November 4, 2002, just three days before his 87th birthday. Joseph was born in Sanok, Poland in 1915 and was predeceased by his father Michael and mother Karolina. He was the last remaining member of a family of three brothers and four sisters. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Grace, whom he married in Winnipeg 52 years ago; his son Richard (Sarah) daughter Valerie and fiance Ronald Mazur; daughter Karol Lynn Eskedjian (Varouj) and three treasured grandchildren, Jonathan, Gregory, and Amelia. Also, his sisters-in-law, Lillian ONeil and Joyce Moreau, and many nieces and nephews in Canada and Poland. After the invasion of Poland in 1939, Joseph and his brother fled on foot to join the French Foreign Legion. When France fell, they joined the Polish Army Division attached to the British 8th Army. His army experiences took him through many countries in the Middle East, North Africa and to Italy. He fought in the battles of Tobruk and Monte Cassino. After the war, he spent two years in England and when demobilized chose to come to Winnipeg. He was employed by the Manitoba Telephone System for 35 years and retired in 1979. We who knew him will always remember his dignified charm and his pride in his family both here and in Poland. In his long retirement, he spent many happy hours enjoying the tranquility of nature at the cottage he built at Victoria Beach, and also found refuge from our cold Manitoba winters in Orlando, Florida. Cremation took place on Thursday, November 7. A memorial service celebrating Josephs life will be held on Sunday, November 10 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. The family wishes to thank the 5th floor medical staff at Grace Hospital for their kindness and compassion in caring for Joseph during his last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6. His spirit will live on in our memories.
