RUTH MARIE MARTIN (nee KIEPER) 1923 to 2002 Passing from this life to a place of peace, early on the morning of November 3, 2002 at home Ruth Marie Martin (nee Kieper), beloved wife of Bill (Ernest William), loving and supportive mother of Maralie Martin (Claus Heinecke) of Toronto and Bob Martin (Susie Strachan) of Winnipeg, and passionate and fun-loving grandmother to Theo, Nicole and Emily Heinecke (Toronto) and Duncan Martin (Winnipeg). A prairie girl through and through, Ruth was born on her familys farm in Fielding, SK, where she spent her youth. After completing school she moved to Winnipeg where she worked at Hudson Bay House and then at Birks, where she met her future husband. Those days were filled with fun and friends, many of whom became lifelong companions. Her enthusiasm and joie de vivre showed up in every phase of her life. A love of music and the ability to play piano by ear not only gave her immense joy, but kept her busy entertaining at many dinner parties. She delighted in dancing throughout her life, and she endeavored always to pass that joy on to all her family. Many special occasions were made even more so by the poems she wrote for family and friends. Her sewing skills provided innumerable costumes for her children and the children of family and friends at Halloween and other occasions. She made every occasion a special occasion. Camaraderie with neighbours at both home and her beloved cottage at Red Rock Lake resulted in dear friendships. She will long be remembered as an instigator of many fun-filled events with them all. As well as her immediate family, Ruth leaves people who were especially special in her life: niece Sue Groff (Winnipeg) nephew Warren Wager (White Rock, BC) and dear friend Jean Spence (Calgary). Ruth lived a full and rich life and will be sadly missed, and lovingly remembered in all our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Manitoba Lung Association would be greatly appreciated. A celebratory memorial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8 at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway (783-7211).
