Karl was predeceased by his first wife Maria (nee Born) of 44 years in 1980; one child in infancy (Ernst) his parents Arno and Anna Marie (Lugau, Germany) and two brothers, Harry and Hans (Lugau, Germany). Karl is survived by his second wife Mary (nee Dyck) of 19 years; six children, Annemarie, John (and Ana-Maria) of Cambridge ON, Harry, Rosemarie (Edward) Charles of Mwanza, Tanzania, Ruth (John) Harms, Gerry (Maggie) 11 grandchildren, David Kramer, Elizabeth (Randy) Hilliard, Daniel (Nancy), Andrew and Simon Charles; Edward Harms, Lori (Stuart) Cox, and Mark Harms; Nathan, Andrea, and Zachary Kramer; and one great-granddaughter Julianna Hilliard. After obtaining his architecture degree in Dresden, Germany, and attending Bible School in Wiedenest, Germany, Karl and his first wife spent 11 years under the Mennonite Brethren Missions in the Belgian Congo (Rep. of Congo) Africa. In 1948 they returned to Germany where he served as pastor, and in 1953 the family immigrated to Winnipeg. He worked many years as carpenter and later as custodian. He actively served with the seniors in the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church. We will all miss his friendliness, smile, openness, encouragement, and prayer ministry for all. He would never pass up calling and remembering hundreds of people on their birthdays and anniversaries. For the past year he was cared for in Donwood Manor, which he greatly appreciated. The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to all the staff for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Brethren Mission and Service International, 2 - 169 Riverton Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2L 2E5, or to the Canadian Bible Society, 952 St. Marys Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2M 3R8.
