NEWELL Peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2002, Ralph passed away following a brief illness at Grace Hospital with his family at his side. Ralph was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his grandson Steven; his parents, Mitchell and Elizabeth Newell; brothers, Walter and Claude; and sister Raemona. He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory his loving wife of 50 years Muriel; his children, Deryl (Leonora) and their children Mychal and Deja; Ralph Jr. (Cindy) and their children Chad and Cory; Sheri and her children Tania (Eugene) and their son Seth, T.J. and Chandra, Trevor (Jill) and their children Danielle and Mitchell, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Ralph was born August 17, 1929 in Newellton, Cape Sable Island, NS. Dad had many career paths beginning as a teacher then school principal. He then became a loyal civil servant for 35 years. During his service he was a meteorologist on Sable Island, an air traffic controller and worked with the correctional services, completing his career with the Department of National Defense as Chief Personnel Administrator in 1987. Dad will be remembered as a loyal and devoted husband and father who truly cherished his family. He shared his passion for sports and the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. Dad was always involved in his familys activities as a hockey coach and volunteer. He was an avid sportsman who loved sharing his knowledge. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with Pastor Quiring officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens with a reception after. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Department of Oncology at Grace Hospital, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB, R3J 3M7 or to a charity of your choice. The family extends a heart felt thank you to the doctors and staff at Grace Hospital for the care given to Dad. Fishermans Prayer God grant that I may live To fish until my dying day, And when it cones to my last cast I then must humbly pray: When in the Lords Safe landing net I am peacefully asleep, That in His mercy I be judged As big enough to keep.
