LEONA FOREMAN Leona Foreman of East Selkirk, beloved Mom, Nan and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, in Selkirk General Hospital, on Thursday, November 7, 2002 at the age of 77 years. Leona June Obirek was born on June 18, 1925 in Arborg, MB; she grew up in Highland Glen. In 1946 she graduated from nursing. In June 1947, she was married to Walter Foreman and they made their home in East Selkirk. After 32 years of nursing, Leona retired from the Selkirk General Hospital in 1987. Caring and compassionate, she enjoyed her career and her patients. Leona was a truly wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was gifted with a great zeal for life. Her example of faith, hope and love is an inspiration to her family. She possessed an indomitable spirit and faced challenges with great courage and optimism. She was proud of her children and grandchildren and supported them in their accomplishments. She had become a great University of Winnipeg basketball fan. She enjoyed travelling, reading, playing cards, gardening and her plants. Her many close friends gave her much happiness and she especially enjoyed her lunch dates. She is lovingly remembered and cherished by her three daughters, Janice (Casey) Kehoe of Edmonton, Dale (George) Duguay of Winnipeg, Darlene (Ken) Friesen of Red Deer; four grandchildren, Jeff (Michelle) Foreman of East Selkirk, Kerri (Don) Kreitz of Winnipeg, Megan and Justin Kehoe of Edmonton; three great-grandchildren, Mason and Marcus Foreman, Sydney Kreitz; step grandchildren, Denise, Richard and Michael Duguay. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins, sisters-in-law, Jean Jablonski, Doreen Obirek and Irene Foreman; brothers-in-law Stan Foreman and Frank Foreman and many very dear friends. Lee was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1975; her father Joseph in 1947; her mother Katherine in 1961; brothers, Henry, Walter, Joe, Stan, John and Frank; sisters, Mary, Evelyn, Emily and Judy. A Prayer Vigil will be held on Sunday, November 10 at 7:30 p.m in Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 11 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, East Selkirk, with Fr. Jerry Talarski presiding. Interment in East Selkirk Cemetery. Memorial tributes are gratefully accepted to: Selkirk General Hospital Palliative Care Unit, East Selkirk Cemetery Fund, St., Stanislaus Catholic Church or CancerCare. The family sincerely thanks her many friends for their support and love; her care givers at Selkirk General Hospital Palliative Care Unit and Health Sciences Centre; and her dear friend, Dr. Demsas.
