ANGUS DAVID ANTOINE SWAN (BABA) March 10, 1934 - November 8, 2002 Peacefully on November 8, 2002, at the E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital, in Eriksdale, MB, after a lengthy illness, with his family by his side, Angus David Antoine Swan (Baba) aged 68 years of Lake Manitoba First Nation. Angus was born March 10, 1934, at Lake Manitoba First Nation and lived a very full and active life. He was a proud and outspoken man who had many achievements. Starting his own farm and building his own house for his family in the early 60s, he worked hard to make it grow right up to the time he became ill and could not manage and then passed his farm on to his sons. Angus served for a time with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry in Winnipeg in his younger days. He also worked as a bus driver for Lake Manitoba School for many years. He then went on to work for Anishinaabe Child and Family Services as a Support Worker for six years. He also served three 2 year terms as Chief for Lake Manitoba First Nation and several terms as Councillor. He received numerous recognition awards for his services, leadership and untiring dedication to his community. He was also an elder/advisor for the Lake Manitoba First Nation and Interlake Reserves Tribal Council and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He did a lot of travelling in his days to places such as England, the United States, Mexico and all over Canada. Angus, in his healthier days, loved to play bingo. He would travel anywhere in any weather to go and play. He loved working outdoors, tending to his cattle and farm, always making sure everything was proper and to his satisfaction. He also loved to drive around in his truck sightseeing, visiting with his many friends, community members, elders and family. He was very trustworthy, dependable, someone you could rely on to help in times of crisis, emergencies and community events. He was a very well known, proud and caring person. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. In his passing, he leaves to mourn his wife Evelyn of 43 years, daughter Andrea (Berry), sons, John (Susan), Dudley (Pam), Barry (Mary), Eric and Michael; foster daughters, Laura and Tina; grandchildren, Cameron, Preston, Blair, Karen, Lindsey, Barry Jr., Trisha, Tomahawk, Avery, Martin and Todd; five great-grandchildren; his sister Lillian Pelletier (Ralph) and family. He is also survived by four brothers-in-law and their families, one sister-in-law Clara and her family. He was predeceased by his parents; seven brothers; three sisters; two sons, Bruce in 1987 and Freeman in 2002. Wake and Prayer services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, at Evelyns residence at Lake Manitoba First Nation. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, at the St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Mario officiating. Interment to follow in Lake Manitoba Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be John Swan, Eric Swan, Byron Swan, Berry McLean, Garry McLean and Leslie Maytwayashing. Honorary pallbearers will be all those who knew him. Cross bearer will be Michael Pierre. We are genuinely proud to have been blessed in our lives with this man as a husband, brother, dad and Baba, who taught us kindness, strength, wisdom and respect for each other. We will miss his "somewhat" funny jokes and his sense of humour. He was always there for us. We will greatly miss him, but his spirit will live on in our hearts forever. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Eriksdale E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital, especially Dr. Steyn and Dr. Burnett for your care and compassion during Angus numerous stays at the hospital.
