FRANCES SMITH (nee WABICK) (HARRIS) 1926 - 2002 It is with deepest sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Frances Smith, aged 76 years, on Saturday, November 9, 2002 at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre in Winnipeg. Frances will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her daughters, Audrey (Dale) Weiss, Jenett (Marvin) Richter; four grandchildren, Kyle, Andrew, Nicole, David; and a host of dear friends and relatives. Frances was predeceased by her husband John Smith in May 2000, by her mother Anastasia Harris in 1982 and father Charles Harris in 1977. Frances was born on April 17, 1926 on a farm in Manitoba. She married John Smith on August 4, 1953 and they farmed with her parents in the rural district of Polonia until they moved to Winnipeg in 1965. She described herself as "a farm girl at heart". Frances welcomed company and her home was always a place of generous hospitality. Her love for entertaining was reflected in her delight in making visitors feel at home. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, bingo and gardening. She was a caring and giving person who cherished family and friends. Respecting her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 14 at 11:00 a.m. in Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Rd. (Winnipeg) with the Rev. Dr. Gordon Taylor officiating. Urn placement will follow in the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, 1501 Waverley St. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the special care given to Frances by the wonderful and compassionate team of caregivers and friends at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends desire, donations may be made to the Diabetes Foundation of Manitoba 1114 - 233 Kennedy St., Winnipeg, MB or a charity of ones choice. It breaks our hearts to lose you But you did not go alone For part of us went with you The day God called you home. Though your smile we can no longer see And your hand we cannot touch We will never lose the memory Of one we loved so much. Thanks for the loving years you gave us The happy times we shared We all pray that when you left us You knew how much we cared. Our comfort and reassurance is with knowing that As God calls us one by one We will be together again. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street949-4860
