DEBBIE LYNN CARRUTHERS (nee LINKLATER) It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Debbie Carruthers, our cherished wife, mother, daughter and sister on Sunday, November 10, 2002 at the Health Sciences Centre, with her family by her side. Debbie will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Ken; and two children, Jessica and Rebecca; her mother Pearl Linklater; sister Darlene (Sam) Caci; nieces, Melissa and Michelle; brother Larry (Merle) nephew James; brother Greg; sister Jo-Anne (Vito) Scarola; nieces, Vanessa and Alexandra; brother Dale (Karen) nephews, Logan and Kienan. She will also be missed by her aunts, uncles, cousins, the Carruthers family, many friends and especially Sandi and Sharon. Debbie was predeceased by her father Lawrence Linklater. Debbie was born and raised in Winnipeg and attended Our Lady of Victory School and Churchill High. She had been employed with Safeway for 16 years and was currently at St. Annes and Fermor, where she developed many friendships with staff and customers. She was very proud of her two daughters and would show their pictures every chance she got. She enjoyed ceramics and dancing. Debbie lived life to the fullest and always did it with a smile. The family would like to thank all the firemen and paramedics for their excellent response and rescue. Also, we would like to express our sincere thanks to all the doctors and nurses at SICU at the Health Sciences Centre for their compassion, support and excellent care given to Debbie. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 14 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vital Roman Catholic Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy., with Rev. Dr. P. A. Morand officiating. Service to terminate at the church with a private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations in Debbies memory, may be made to the Firefighters Burn Fund, 202-666 St. James St., Winnipeg, MB, 783-1733. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I've known Debbie since grade 3. I just found out now that she passed in 2002. My Condolences to Dale and Debbie's whole family My fondest memory of Debbie was going in front of our grade 3 class at our lady of victory school and performing Elton John's Crocodile rock. With a bandana wrapped around her head and I played the song from my record player in the classroom, debbid lyp pinched the whole song while I played guitar and the whole classroom loved her. She did so well, every time I hear that song it reminds me of her. Miss you Deb and hope your at peace wherever you may be, sorry I never reconnected with you after high school . - Posted by: Emily Dabramo (School friend) on: Sep 26, 2025
