JEAN McLENNAN Jean McLennan died peacefully at the Grace Hospital on Saturday, November 9, 2002, at age 89. Jean leaves to mourn her sons, Ross and Bob; her grandchildren, James and Paul; her sisters-in-law, Ellen McLennan, Lillian McLennan and Margaret White; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her mother and father, Janet and Robert; her husband, Murdock (Cookie) McLennan; her sister, Margaret; and her brother Robert. Born in Brandon on May 4, 1913, Jean completed her education at Winnipeg Business College in 1929 and began her twelve years at Wabasso Cotton Co. She married Cookie in June 1941 and in the mid-1950s returned to the workforce as a legal secretary for Winnipeg lawyer Wasyl Swystun. She remained with the company through its various ownerships until she retired in 1983. During her younger years, Jean was a member of St. Giles Church, where she was in the choir. Later, she was active in the charitable organization Canadian Daughters of the Empire and, following her retirement, a volunteer with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Jean was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose quiet strength, generous nature and gracious spirit was an inspiration to her family and friends. She was much loved and will be sorely missed. A special thank you to the staff and volunteers at the Rehabilitation and Palliative Care Units of Grace General Hospital. In lieu if flowers, donations may be sent to the Grace General Hospital Foundation Hospice, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB, R3J 3M7. Memorial service will be held on Friday, November 15, at 12:30 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception will follow the service.
